Get To Know : Powerplant
Tell us about yourselves, your music, and your influences?
I’m in my late 20s, I make happy/sad music with synthesisers and I’m generally inspired by doubling down on bad ideas until they are kinda good.
What’s the story behind your new album ‘Bridge of Sacrifice’, releasing on 13th March?
It’s synth-punk gone symphonic metal - to me it’s a fun gothic experience. The name comes from Elden Ring and it’s all a convoluted way to process stuff. I loved black metal forever and finally found a way to gel it with Powerplant. It’s weird, it’s cool - it's like a strange anime.
This record feels heavier, does it reflect where you’re at right now personally / musically?
Past four years have been a waking nightmare with my friends and family getting progressively more bombed every day back home in Ukraine. Heavier genre setting is a better vehicle to get some of that out of the system. It's just a reflection of turning unc in these trying times.
Powerplant started as a solo project with Theo in 2017. What made you decide to expand it into a full band rather than keep it solo?
Had no friends (in music) - now I have friends (in music)! I still write and record everything, but can’t play music like this solo live - would be a sad, bad show. Very lucky to rock with the best of the best from Hitmen, Second Death and ineedsound!
If you could collaborate with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
I shan’t disturb the peace of the unliving. Doing something with Yung Lean would be cool.
Anything exciting happening in 2026/ What can fans look forward to?
2026 is the year and everyone should look forward to each day and moment we are all blessed with.
Powerplant are playing Oslo, Hackney on the 30th of April, 2026.
