Get To Know : Daiistar
Please introduce your band.
DAIISTAR is an Alt-Indie band from Austin, Texas inspired by the neo-psychedelic era of the 80s and 90s. Their debut album ‘GOOD TIME’ produced by Alex Maas of The Black Angels was released in September 2023 via London based label FUZZ CLUB Records.
Where did the name DAIISTAR come from?
Alex’s uncle was a truck driver who had an 18 wheeler named Daystar. Alex took the name and added the double i.
How did you all meet?
It seems like our friendship faded into existence through the Austin music scene. We had a mutual respect for each others talents and eventually we started a band together
Who or what has inspired the band's sound?
The Jesus and Mary Chain’s 1992 album Honeys Dead was a big inspiration for the sound of the guitars, while the baggy Madchester era influenced the rhythm section in DAIISTAR.
What's been your favourite gig to date?
Fuzz Club Festival at Effenaar in Eindhoven was incredible. Standing where bands like Joy Division, Ramones, and Sex Pistols had once played was an honor. There were visuals of floating cars, televisions screens, and a glowing man that would disintegrate and regenerate throughout our set. It was quite the spectacle and the band received a lot of love in Eindhoven.
Tell us about the Austin scene at the moment, who are you excited about?
It almost seems like there’s a new band forming every minute here in Austin, but the ones that stand out to us are Die Spitz, Being Dead, and Farmer's Wife... Definitely worth checking them out.
Any plans for new releases, or ambitions for the rest of 2024?
We’re writing the next record now. There’s quite a few songs that we’ll be diving into as soon as we get back from tour. For now you can stream the new remix of our track Parallel by Immersion (the project of Colin Newman and Malka Spigel).
If you could pick someone to share the stage with, dead or alive, who would it be and
why?
It would probably have to be Fontaines DC. They’re a great band and the show would be epic. Then we’d get to say we told you so when it happens.
Anything you're keen to do / see while you're in London?
We didn’t get to explore much of the city on our last tour so I think we’ll spend a day being tourists before the show at Moth Club on the 28th
Catch Daiistar at The Moth Club 28th August 2024
